Death camps and concentration camps were built WITHIN CITY LIMITS. Auschwitz, for example, is well within the city, and people take fricking strolls under its walls. I was fucking THERE, don’t even. The Polish knew, the Germans knew, it was LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE not to know. It’s even in the historical record, it’s even in fricking civilian diaries, THEY KNEW.

I seriously cannot re-blog the commentary on this enough.

Every time you imagine the ghettos and camps being isolated, away from the germans, slap yourself. Get that imagine out of your head and see that these places were right around cities and towns.

Ok for starters Auschwitz is definitely not within the city limits, it’s about a twenty minute bus ride out of the city. And second, while I’m not saying the German soldiers didn’t know, this is Hitler we’re talking about. Do people really think that every able bodied man wasn’t forced into signing up? The way that most men in the UK were, or else be branded a conscientious objector and arrested? I just find this viewpoint incredibly offensive, my grandfather was a German naval engineer who happened to be caught up in a war he had no say in, much like the majority of both German and English soldiers. He was NOT a Nazi, and the insinuation that he was is personally distressing to me.

Their media was riddled with propaganda about these “rehabilitation camps”. They were believed to be a place where prisoners worked hard and were re-educated. When journalists visited they were on their best behaviour.

In the Dachau concentration camp there’s a wall dedicated to this propaganda, with plenty of clippings from journalist articles at the time about what great, positive things these “rehabilitation camps” were, turning prisoners into good, upstanding hard working citizens. They had no reason to suspect what was going on.

When the US discovered what was happening, they made the citizens of Dachau get their asses in there to see what had been going on and the community was in shock. Don’t blame an entire nation for something like that just because you think they “must have” known because they were “so close to it”. Tell that to Ariel Castro’s neighbours.

Once we all grew beans in pots as part of a Biology experiment- the experiment failed miserably and made the whole lab stink, but his was the only bean that grew and he was actually pretty proud about it

He learned to knit as part of a school project where he had to learn a creative skill, and when a couple of people teased him about it he said “gender is a social construct” and carried on knitting like a badass

He loves the scene in The Great Gatsby where Gatsby throws all his silk shirts around and he and I used to giggle over it together

Once I asked him if he had a string of tinsel I could use in a photoshoot and he brought me a big cardboard box full of tinsel and fairy lights because he’s a helpful and lovely guy

He’s HUMAN and he needs our HELP and just PLEASE PLEASE FUCKING REBLOG THIS??? He’s been missing for four days now- when he went missing he would have been wearing his contact lenses and he won’t have had his (very thick) glasses with him so by now he’ll have had to take his contacts out and throw them away and he won’t be able to see well and oh God just please signal boost this
